NBM puts six new commemorative coins into circulation
The National Bank of Moldova put six commemorative coins into circulation as legal tender and for numismatic purposes. The coins started to be issued on December 30.
The series “Personalities” will be supplemented with a coin dedicated to the celebration of 100 years of the birth of the plastic artist Mihail Grecu, who revolutionized plastic arts in Moldova. The silver and gold coins show the effigy or the artist. The gold coin has the nominal value of 100 lei and was issued in 100 copies. The silver coin is worth 50 lei and was issued in 200 copies.
Another coin forms part of the series “Historical events” and is dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the first edition of Dimitrie Cantemir’s monograph “Description of Moldova”. The coin has the nominal value of 100 lei and has an issue of 250 units.
The series “Holidays, culture and traditions of Moldova” is continued by a silver coin dedicated to the traditional round dance “Hora”. The coin is worth 50 lei and has an issue of 250 units.
The series “Holy places” will now include the coin “180 years of the construction of the Chisinau Cathedral “God’s Birth”. This has the nominal value of 50 lei and an issue of 250 units.
The silver coin “Red-breasted goose” supplements the series “Red Book of the Republic of Moldova”. It has a nominal value of 50 lei and was issued in 250 copies.
The jubilee and commemorative coins issued by the National Bank of Moldova are sold through Moldovan licensed banks. Their price is set independently by the banks, but can be by at most 3% higher than the price at which they are purchased from the central bank.
